shelter Services *

We offer a tiered pricing structure for animal shelters based on the level of involvement, the types of protocols and processes requested, and staff training and communication needs. Pricing reflects the range of time we will spend as veterinary professionals, legal compliance administrative tasks, and professional liability. Our goal is that shelters will be able to invest in a Veterinarian of Record relationship as a strategy to offer more care to more animals and lower their total veterinary services costs overall.

VOR Scholarships available! Through a special benefactor friend of TSL, we have a limited number of VOR services scholarships available to jump start shelters in need. Send us an inquiry if you would like more information.

What We Offer

Our veterinarians will determine where your needs meet our services and the tiered pricing that best fits your situation. Visit our scope of services section to review some of the options available as part of the Veterinarian of Record relationship. We periodically review the needs and priorities of our shelters in order to adjust the level of service and pricing according to current needs to provide the best service over time.

  • Small capacity shelters, rescues, and foster-based organizations with basic medical care programs including: comprehensive intake process, vaccines, parasite prevention and treatment, diarrhea and respiratory illness care, behavior and pain management plans, and trauma triage protocol needs.

  • Small to medium capacity shelters, often municipal or with contracts, surgery or community outreach programs, with staff equipped to administer comprehensive medical care including: all basic medical care protocols and the addition of laboratory diagnostics, radiology, surgery program set-up, DEA licensed controlled drug program, surgical care, sedation protocols for wound and foreign body care, and more.

  • Medium capacity shelters, which can be municipal or private with or without contracts, onsite and offsite surgery or community outreach programs, volunteer and telemedicine based programs, with medical staff equipped to administer comprehensive medical care and surgical care including: all basic and comprehensive medical care protocols and the addition of advanced protocol training, program implementation, leadership coaching and support, medical staff recruitment and retention support, forensics and rescue training programs, in person staff and stakeholder meetings and more.

Our Process

1-Plan with Purpose

We start with an initial meeting to get to know you, review your shelter’s profile, numbers, and “signalment”, your goals and care gaps, and understand how you hope VOR services will help you expand access to care.

2-Shelter Tour & Needs Assessment

We visit your shelter staff to see the facility and how you use it, talk with those who care for your animals, and your admin team, learn what you are able to offer now and what you hope to be able to offer with a VOR, and learn more about the community you serve.

3-VOR Scope of Services Review & Proposal

Our veterinarians will review what we’ve learned about your shelter, how you function and hope to serve, the skillset and resources you have or need to implement new protocols, and provide you with a proposal of prioritized protocols and VOR strategy. We review your shelter tier pricing and general timelines for implementation and answer questions about the VOR relationship.

4-Veterinarian of Record relationship established

Once we have signed a VOR contract with your organization, we will plan our meetings times, additional onsite visits as needed, establish document sharing and begin protocol training and implementation. This is the start of our partnership which will ebb and flow with time and need.
