shelter Services *

We offer tiered pricing for animal shelters based on the level of veterinary involvement needed, the protocols and processes requested, and the amount of staff training and communication support required. Pricing reflects the professional time, legal compliance responsibilities, administrative work, and liability involved in serving as a Veterinarian of Record.

Our goal is to make VOR relationships a practical investment that helps shelters provide more care to more animals while reducing overall veterinary service costs.

VOR Scholarships available soon! Through the generosity of a special benefactor and friend of TSL, we have a limited number of VOR service scholarships available to help shelters in need get started. Check back soon to learn more!

What We Offer

Our veterinarians will work with you to understand your shelter’s needs and together identify the services that fit best as well as the appropriate pricing tier for your situation. Visit our Scope of Services section to review some of the options available through a Veterinarian of Record relationship. We also periodically review each shelter’s needs and priorities so we can adjust the level of service and pricing as those needs change over time..

  • Shelters, rescues, and foster-based organizations looking for basic medical care programs. This tier may include support for intake processes, vaccination protocols, parasite prevention and treatment, diarrhea and respiratory illness care, behavior and pain management plans, and trauma triage protocols.

  • This tier supports teams equipped to provide more comprehensive medical care, including basic medical care protocols as well as laboratory diagnostics, radiology, surgical care protocols, infectious disease management, trauma triage, and wound care.

This level is often appropriate for shelters with licensed veterinary technicians and trained assistants providing care under veterinary direction.

  • This tier supports organizations with onsite or offsite surgery programs, community outreach services, volunteer-based programs, telemedicine-supported care, and medical teams equipped to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care.

This level may include all basic and comprehensive medical care protocols, as well as advanced protocol training, DEA-licensed controlled drug program support and related protocols, program implementation, leadership coaching, medical staff recruitment and retention support, forensic and rescue training, in-person staff and stakeholder meetings, and other specialized services.

This level of shelter partnership often involves customized protocols and support designed to meet the unique needs of the shelter and the community it serves.

  • Specialized services are available in some service areas, based on state law, local need, and veterinarian availability. We charge an hourly rate for these services and can provide custom plans for special requests.

Our Process

1-Plan with Purpose

We start with an initial meeting to get to know you, review your shelter’s profile, numbers, and “signalment”, your goals and care gaps, and understand how you hope VOR services will help you expand access to care.

2-Shelter Tour & Needs Assessment

We visit your shelter staff to see the facility and how you use it, talk with those who care for your animals, and your admin team, learn what you are able to offer now and what you hope to be able to offer with a VOR, and learn more about the community you serve.

3-VOR Scope of Services Review & Proposal

Our veterinarians will review what we’ve learned about your shelter, how you function and hope to serve, the skillset and resources you have or need to implement new protocols, and provide you with a proposal of prioritized protocols and VOR strategy. We review your shelter tier pricing and general timelines for implementation and answer questions about the VOR relationship.

4-Veterinarian of Record relationship established

Once we have signed a VOR contract with your organization, we will plan our meetings times, additional onsite visits as needed, establish document sharing and begin protocol training and implementation. This is the start of our partnership which will ebb and flow with time and need.
